The River at 16.8 Feet

...doesn't look all that different. By happenstance, I was out there on the highway bridge yesterday just when it was at its highest.

Elwha River, 2 PM November 7

This morning, showers interspersed with thick fog.

fog - it gives off such a variety of messages, generating many different feelings. sometimes it is beautiful and mysterious, other times eerie and cold. we have seen it covering big sur like a veil, mystical but inviting, blending with sky and water. there are times when it rolls in from the sound and covers our landscape in a chilly dampness that speaks only of an early morning solitude. i hate driving in it but enjoy looking at its quickly changing form, a natural gift welcomed by our gardens who thrive in its mist.
